The Annapurna Circuit Trek
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most established trekking routes, known for its long mountain journey that links the Manang and Mustang valleys. The trail crosses Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters, one of the highest points on the route, and passes through a wide range of landscapes, from river valleys to high alpine terrain.
The trek begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar and continues toward Chame, where the walking route starts. The trail follows the Marsyangdi River and passes through several villages, gradually gaining altitude. Manang serves as a key stop along the route, with traditional monasteries, prayer wheels, and open views of the surrounding mountains.
Beyond Manang, the landscape becomes drier and more rugged. A side trip leads to Tilicho Lake, a high-altitude lake surrounded by steep peaks and open sky. The main route continues through settlements such as Ledar, Thorong Phedi, and High Camp before reaching Thorong La Pass. From the top, trekkers descend into the Mustang region, where the terrain shifts to arid valleys and wide mountain views.
The return journey continues through Mustang and includes a stop at Tatopani, where natural hot springs offer a place to rest before the final drive to Pokhara. Daily walking hours range from 5 to 8 hours, depending on the section. This trek is suitable for experienced and well-prepared trekkers who are comfortable with long distances and high altitude conditions.
