Upper Mustang Trek:
The Upper Mustang Trek offers a unique journey into one of Nepal’s most culturally distinct and remote regions. Once an independent Himalayan kingdom, Upper Mustang preserves strong Tibetan Buddhist traditions, ancient settlements, and a way of life that has changed little over the centuries. This trek appeals to travelers interested in both culture and dramatic desert mountain landscapes.
The journey begins with a flight to Jomsom before following the Kali Gandaki Valley north toward the walled city of Lo Manthang. Along the route, trekkers pass through traditional villages, cross open valleys, and explore a region known for its rich history and cultural heritage.
Upper Mustang is famous for its ancient monasteries, prayer walls, and remarkable cave complexes carved into towering cliffs. Some caves contain centuries-old Buddhist artwork, manuscripts, and artifacts that offer a glimpse into the region’s past. The landscape is equally impressive, with colorful rock formations, deep canyons, and views of mountains such as Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Nilgiri. Fossils can also be found along parts of the Kali Gandaki, which was once an ancient seabed.
This is a moderate trek suitable for most people with a reasonable level of fitness. Daily walks generally range from 5 to 7 hours, and accommodation is provided in local teahouses. The Upper Mustang Trek is ideal for travelers seeking a combination of culture, history, and unique Himalayan scenery.
If you have limited time and cost then you also can try Ghorepani Poonhill Trek.
Apex Nepal Treks & Tours is a guide owned company in Nepal and we organize every trek in a best way you can afford. Our Everest Base Camp Trek is the most reasonable price in the market. Thank you!
